J-School State of Mind: A Journalist's Oath

Two major studies showed that during the 08 campaign, Fox News had the most balanced coverage - giving equal fair and negative stories to both Obama and McCain. Stats like that speak for themselves- that means these kids are, like many in journalism (or what's left of it), clueless.
If this were my kid, I'd be both embarrassed and horrified.

@jboze3131 Wow what studies where those??? FOX "News" is by any standards of journalism no journalism at all. No news at all. It's propaganda in it's purest and lowest form. It's really a shameful for the entire industry and profession. I've actually spent a lot of time researching this specific topic and ALL non-biased studies suggest that FOX consumers are the most MISINFORMED of all news consumers.

I see virgins.....

@jboze3131 Oh dear lord... Why won't conservatives admit that they like Fox News because they are more right leaning? Just admit it and get on with it, because no one else is buying the bullshit you're selling... Seriously, do you even hear yourself when you say stuff like that? You honestly believe Fox is LESS biased? Seriously? I mean... seriously?!

@nobleclem You're right! Man, so right! Thank God we still have FOX *cough* News *cough*

@m3rcury155 It's the crack about FOX News and Hannity that bunched up their panties...
-
@well99 "Many of the news media" - mmm, not let me just guess which media you think is NOT biased... Does it begin with an... F?

Just look at those giddy faces and listen to those nervous giggles, and think: out of such unpromising stock will come the future pompous, self-righteous and sycophantic copy of the New York Times, Washington Post and Time Mag. Soon they'll learn the fundamentals that J-school could only adumbrate: Israel is always right, Wall Street knows best , and Mr. President is next to godhead. Such, such is the transformative power of ambition in America. Go get 'em team!

And to everyone out here who's laughing about a Journalist's Code of Ethics, whether you know it, or even choose to acknowledge it, or not the Society of Professional Journalists has a Code of Ethics that it expects all journalists to follow. Don't confuse bias and aggressive reporting with unethical practices. Sure, there are the Jayson Blair's of the world who will fabricate stories, but most journalists are just trying to do their jobs.

I thought this video was great. It sounds (and looks) like these guys had a whole lot more fun than I did in my Journalism Ethics class. Don't let the haters get you down guys. I too am about to graduate and go out searching for a job, and these days finding a journalism job (especially if you go the print route) isn't easy. Good luck to you all!
I want to go tot his school so badly. But it's in NYC....it's ivy.... and a lot of money. You guys have been allowed the chance to go there, you should all feel so lucky, prous, honored and blessed. All I want to do with my life is write, and be a journalist. I hope to one day be at this school. Go Columbia J-School!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really do feel lucky. I've learned so much from not only my incredible professors but fellow students as well. Things can get stressful around here but I've loved and appreciated every minute of it. Graduation is months away and I'm already missing J-school!
Best of luck on all your journalistic endeavors. And GO COLUMBIA J-SCHOOL! :)
