European Arianespace, the world's first and largest commercial space transportation company, is behind the Ariane 5 rocket.

On 10 December 1999 an Ariane-5 from Kourou, French Guiana lauch "XMM-Newton", the biggest science satellite ever built in Europe to date.

With the most sensitive detectors and telescope mirrors ever developed in the world, XMM-Newton is detecting more X-ray sources than any previous satellite, helping to solve many cosmic mysteries of the violent Universe, from what happens in and around black holes to the formation of galaxies in the early universe.

  • AMERICA!!!

  • @nadoom I meant before Europe who didnt have a space program. Accrosing to a book and a documentary BBC I have, the Black night motor was used in the first ESA rocket then we withdrew leaving the tech in place.

  • @BuildYourMind Black Arrow was the launch vehicle for prospero. Blue streak was the first stage of the europa rocket which was the precursor to the ariane series. Also we were not first...

  • Britain gave their Black Night rocket system to Europe and it was renamed Areane. Typically Britain then left the consortium. We put a satellite in orbit first with Areane/Black Night, it was called Prospero.

  • LOOK! WHAT IS THAT?? I DON'T KNOW, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A " JOHNSON"! AHA

  • @TheDustyRavage

Why? Europe lacks a manned access to space, but aside from that, they are right on the money. They have one of the most capable and modern launchers in the world today, have built 5 of the pressurized modules currently docked to the ISS, have a fully automated ISS resupply ship and flew probes to the Moon, Mars, Venus and the first ever spacecrafts to land on a moon of another planet (Huygens) and a comet (Rosetta).

  • nasa is years ahead of the esa...

  • @naplesjake i can its just its in the title Europe rules , as in europe is the best .

  • @kirza94 eh, more like you can't! eh...
