A Man Named Pearl tells the inspiring story of self-taught topiary artist Pearl Fryar. It is a subtle and intriguing film that is certain to open hearts and minds. It offers an upbeat message that speaks to respect for both self and others, and shows what one person can achieve when he allows himself to share the full expression of his humanity.
I finally got the chance to visit the garden. IT WAS POURING DOWN RAINING! I was disappointed because I didn't get to meet Mr. Pearl but maybe one day I'll go back to the garden on a better day. It was beautiful even in the downpour.

You're so right. I thought I was just going to see a garden, but I left there with an appreciation for his gift and an uplifted spirit. His message inspires you to go out and encourage other people.

If you're ever near Columbia, SC, make the trip to Bishopville to see Mr. Fryar's yard. You will leave a better person than when you arrived. And if you are lucky, you might have the chance to chat with him. He is the embodiment of gracious humility coupled with a singular talent. His story proves that challenge can produce man's most spectacular achievements. It's more than a garden. It is a testament to rising up, not to conquer, but simply to prove that each of us is of equal value.
