One of Taiping's defining characteristics is definitely its much touted and cherished lake gardens. Lovingly landscaped from rehabilitated tin-mining land, the 64 hectares of gorgeous green turf, trees and plants portray the good sense of environmental rehabilitation and preservation. The clean and well-maintained Lake Gardens encompasses a lake, a recreational park and a Japanese garden. There is also a nearby golf club and zoo.
And while on the topic of defining characteristics, one of the most striking features of the Gardens itself is the huge, glorious rain trees which moss covered branches, ancient and gnarled, form an almost umbrella like shape over the roads that border the Lake Gardens. It is not surprising then that the great rain trees are a popular subject among amateur photographers and tourists alike. One could even spot couples dressed in wedding attire posing in front of the camera at the gardens since it is an ideal scenic location for outdoor wedding or engagement photography.
In the same way that New Yorkers cherish and adore their Central Park, the Taiping Lake Gardens has a special place in the hearts of Taiping residents. Not only is it the host to a variety of plants, flowers, trees, birds and a dazzling variety of insects, the gardens provide an open and safe venue for the public to enjoy leisurely activities.
