I don't understand why most of people thinking that at the pic screen in the video two Oiran??? Oiran has another hair style!!! many kanzashi-sticks in the hair of Oiran, very complex hair style, another type of kimono!! Here I think really two simple women or maybe two Geiko, because shamisen plus Mother here at the picture. Oiran has about 12 kanzashi sticks in the hair, here I see only two!

Geisha are living works of art, there is confusing slang for a common bathouse prostitute "Onsen Geisha" that may lead to Western misconceptions but these are not Geisha. They are merely prostitutes who market themselves well. They have never even been Maiko's, Geisha apprentices.

@UncleBobIsAngry oh wow really? that's interesting to know. i understand

@ladyjosephinelover they had an audition in Japan to recruit Japanese actresses/actors. NO ONE turned up. They had no choice but to recruit Chinese casts with the exception of Ken Watanabe.
The Japanese regard the life of geisha as a very 'sacred' thing.

@subroto81 thats true now all you see is kids with those crazy hair styles and walkin around with all kinds of technology in thier hands. its almost painful to see such a great country lose its traditional culture.

@FuturisticXXL Actually oiran are prositutes- if I spelled that right but yeah oiran are high class prositues.

a geisha is NOT the same as prostitute.
a geisha is an entertainer. They entertaine men (in the past, now they entertaine both) with song, dance, stories etc. It has happend that they use prostitute service as well, but not aften. in the beginning it was a male job.
