Review: Stokke Tripp Tapp High Chair

It was love at first sight. Sleek design. Green materials. Multiple functions. I'm talking about the Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair. I saw this chair at my neighbor's house and was instantly drawn to it because it isn't made of plastic! As I researched the chair, I was even more impressed.

Why I love the Tripp Trapp

This chair changes with growing baby from infancy to adult (holds up to 300 lbs. for a real big boy!)
With adjustable foot rest and seat cushion, this chair ensures ergonomically correct positioning as your child grows
Because this chair pulls up to your kitchen table (no table tray), it promotes socialization, family bonding and strong eye-hand coordination

A couple considerations

Cost. With a price tag north of $250, not including accessories, it's much more expensive than standard high chairs. But, this chair is a 3-in-1. It serves as a high chair, a booster chair and a child chair, not to mention that it morphs into an adult chair later on. Since this chair will be with my family indefinitely, I think of the Tripp Trapp as a piece of furniture and a long-term investment. And how sweet with this be... when Griffin is 10 years old and doesn't sit in mommy's lap much any more, I can see him sitting on his Tripp Trapp and remember those early days.
No tray. One of the advantages of this chair is that it brings the baby to the table with your family rather than having her be isolated in her tower of plasticness. But this can be tricky when babies are first learning to eat and they are BEYOND messy. It's hard to enjoy her company when she's destroying your kitchen table and the floor below. To solve this temporary issue, we purchased a plastic tray that snaps onto the Tripp Tapp. While not ideal, I'll be one happy mama as I let Griffin explore and play to his heart's content on his tray rather than on our kitchen table. Soon enough, he'll be back at the table with us but this is a great interim "fix."

I loved this chair when I first saw it, too. Unfortunately I read a lot of reviews stating that people had problems with the chair flipping backwards (especially on carpeting, which we have in our dining area). Have you found this to be a problem or is it pretty sturdy?

@guitargirlae No problems with flipping. It comes with little extenders for the back legs that make it more stable too.

Where did you buy the plastic add on tray ??

I love this chair and recently bought it as a result of this post actually. I researched a little more and found that I'm extremely impressed with the Stokke Xplory Stroller. It's a little expensive but is also a three in one, and sort of a long term investment (and did I mention beautiful!?). Do you use it? Also, what sort of car seat do you use for Griffin? I'm so curious. You have such an eye for the latest baby gear.

@miladyrigel Hi! I haven't had any issues with it as of yet. I know you can buy feet extenders for the base of chair. It's received crazy good reviews across the board so don't think it's a major issue.

I saw this one PBK's website and it looks very nice. But I have one question. Is it heavy enough to stay grounded? The way the legs are remind me of those ugly outdoor chairs that always fall backwards. Is it heavy enough a toddler couldn't push against the table and flip itself over? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, that's just the first thing that pops in my head when I see this chair.
