Joe Strummer-Sleepwalk, off the 1989 album Earthquake Weather

Matchbooks of lonely places I'll never find
Clocks on wall spaces, some peace of mind
I'll never find
What good would it be,
What good would it be,
If you could change every river
That ran through your life and mine? Cos from here to the county line
Counts one hundred and ninety-nine
Oh the Scarsdale will be on time
You know shoeshine costs a dime

Hootenanny Annie had a
party in the yard
You could smell the barbie out on Ocean Boulevard
Where I went to find, some peace of mind
What good would it be,
What good would it be,
If you could change every heartache
That ran through your life and mine?

Cos from here to the county line
Counts one hundred and ninety-nine
Oh the Scarsdale will be on time
You know shoeshine costs a dime

With the washroom lights of a bowling alley in your face
You know your car and your plates are really out of place
That goes for your soul
Some holy rock 'n' roll
What good would it be,
What good would it be,
If you could change every heartache
That ran through your life and mine?

  • This is a beauty. I have loved that Clash for so so many years now but am just opening up to the awesome solo stuff he did. Many thanks to Joe and many thumbs up for his awesome spirit and legacy. What an ace human being he was.

  • a breathtaking song by the master r i p joe a true legend and a true god nobody should have a bad word to say about this man

  • RIP Joe, can't think of a better song to listen to while remembering you. Never forgotten.

  • Reminds me of the material he did for the Walker soundtrack.

  • Agree it's an album every Clash fan oughta have. This is my favourite song off it. Strummer lives.

  • @eilis59 but he still impressed u enough to name drop n cuss him on here though eh? two expressions spring to mind..

    1. if you aint got anything nice to say....

    2. don't speak ill of the dead (unless they were murderers, rapists, paedophiles etc)

oh yeah - and when did you last set up any charity to help the poor/ sick/ disenfranchised or the planet?

  • @eilis59 Fuck off . You listen to shit like Radiohead. What the hell have you done in yr life that compares to Strummers?
