Do the Class 47's at the rear actually do any helping, or are they just pulled as a dead weight, and there for breakdowns?

Sometimes they are there to speed things up to shunt the rolling stock at the destination and sometimes as a bit of insurance. If I remember rightly this one was there to assist if required up Miles Platting bank.

Try these: 42700, 44932, 50621 (1008), 51218, 11243, 52322 (1300).

Horwich also built 3F 0-6-0Ts, Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0s and 8F 2-8-0s, but not the ones preserved.
