Played with a free source backing track. The backing track is tuned a 1/2 step flat (tuned to D#) while the original track was recorded in standard tuning. Don't ask me why... Who knows? Anyway, adjust accordingly. Full lessons will be posted FOR FREE at Vanderbilly.com Peace, Doc

  • Hey Mark, I mean Doc, Fast fingers to get that Bass riff in as you hit that C chord. My eyes don't go that fast! Gotta LOVE the Funk.... Especially the Grand Funk! Just an FYI, my brother actually met Connie. She is/was a real person, chick, groupie and some!

  • @KP11520

Hey KP... GREAT to see you! Everybody is missing you over at VB. They even started a thread! Cool that your bro met "Connie" a little rock history there for sure!

  • Hey Doc-Rock, You said the backing track was off key from the original. I use 'audacity' to pitch shift backing tracks to the key I want. Audacity is freeware and can be downloaded and distributed freely so no license violations!

    Keep rockin!

  • Thanks for the tip, and thanks for watching! Peace, Doc

  • Very nice !.

Would really be impressed if you did 'Black Licorice".

  • @sean4325290 Very cool... I'd love to meet Mr. Farner! Thanks for watching. Peace

  • @TheChuckNorris1997 No he says Farner as in Mark Farner of GFRR. But it does sound like Foreiner haha

  • Good stuff.

  • @kb7010

Although this "lesson" (?) doesn't do it perfectly you should really listen to the song again, Kb. Those 'chica chica's' are in the original recording. Not as much as this person is doing it but they are there. Everyone has their own style and, other then me who plays covers as perfectly as I'm able to, I've seen a lot of guitar players play it exactly like this. No problem with it from me! I think it actually makes the song sound fuller. Especially if it's just the guitar like this.

  • To my knowledge, due to tracking speeds back in the day when bands like GFR recorded, it was common practice to tune a half step "DOWN", or "tuning flat" (not commonly referred to as you say it but...no matter!), to record because they recorded slow and sped it up to 4400 in mastering which brought the tuning up to standard tuning. Something like when you sped 8 track cartridges up it sounded like the chipmunks. Same process. That is probably why the backing track was recorded a half step down.

  • I already knew the song... just came hear for a " refresher course " ONLY..

anyway.. why ALL the grease ( effects *big time..as in delay * and the "chuck a chuck a's" ) when they/it is not in the song..?????

Just my advice for you ONLY.. other than that.. things where fine..!!!!

  • ay man, nice job on this, you have the only note for note intro on youtube...i was wondering if you could help me out with the notes on the little speed riff you play at 1:35 it was too fast to follow with my eyes haha

  • learned alot from ya buddy

  • 0:47 You said Foreigner, not GFR.
