This is a powerpoint presentation outlining the number of trains and the amount of pollution which will be caused by the Metrolinx and Government of Ontario project to expand diesel rail service in Toronto. If built as they want, it will be the busiest diesel rail corridor on the planet, and Ontario will be the only jurisdiction in the world building a diesel rail link to its airport. The Clean Train Coalition believes these services, including the air rail link, should be electric.

  • The Air Rail Link Trains are not diesel-electric. The engines will emit 3x more NOx than the cars it will replace. It will be about a wash in terms of CO2.

  • Really well these Diesel-Electric Trains Use less fuel then a transport truck using a 2500hp CAT diesel generator to power the electric drive to move and power everything on the train.... some with 14 coaches ,Each weighing in at 100,000 lb each its all rather Efficient ... extremely clean aswell, Also theres no emissions since there using clean diesel engines!!

  • Metrolinx has decided to electrify the corridor ASAP, but now it's up to us to hold them to their word.

  • @safetyvlv Coal plants are being phased out! A massive expansion of hydroelectric power generating capacity at Niagara Falls is underway. Regardless, that much pollution shouldn't be concentrated in very densely populated areas.

  • @safetyvlv Coal is not the only way to produce electricity. Calgary's LRT system uses wind power! There are ways.

  • @safetyvlv The tar sands are a LIMITED RESOURCE, everyone knows this. What happens when we run out of oil? What then? No more GO or VIA service then, I suppose. BTW, did I mention the fact that emissions can KILL YOU? The tar sands will be the death of us yet.

  • @jmilic1 Alberta Tar Sands are going to save this country. You folks wouldn't have a CLUE how to live like traditional homesteaders. We've all been spoiled by modern convenience.

This country is geologically set up for manufacturing, smoke stack industry drives this nations economy, not pencil pushing, treehugging, telemarketing careers. These jobs do not provide people with a decent means of income.

  • @jmilic1 clean electric trains....yeah and dirty coal fired power plants to power them with, what a joke lol

  • coal burning steam locomotives rule!

  • Weston? Nooo. I have taken a liking to that neighbourhood, for it neing a mrket strip so close to Rexdale and all. On another note our lungs look tasty, even though I am vegetarian.
