READ FIRST!!!

"Boom" by Terry Longshore and Brett Reed
Performed by bcbdrums and DoremiDerosi

Now....I'm so terribly sorry about the inadequacy of my videocamera. Somehow it superimposed Christmas at grandma's house into the performance video, so part of it is mixed together, and the audio was lost. AND the entire first half of the performance, which was the best part, was totally lost. I'm very sorry...

About the piece: It's a duet, obviously, the theme being phasing. The instrumentation is, two sets of bongos, three different sized toms, and one bass drum. It starts with a six beat pattern, and then a seven beat pattern goes over it. So they phase in and out for....mm....42 beats I think. *hasn't counted* Then both parts are in six, and interlock to form a continuous sixteenth note line, and the patterns change to create melodic interest. And then, the patterns are deconstructed, til one player drops out, and then comes in with something entirely new: triplets. So it's three over four, the three being the quarter note and the four being the dotted quarter. NOW....all of that, is not in the video :'( Stupid camera..... What IS in the video, is after the three over four, when both players play triplets. That section ends in climactic fury, after some more phasing when beats are added by a player. Then comes an improvisation section, based in sixteenth notes played on the high bongos, like a battle. After that, there is a brief unison section, and more improvisation, the basis a little more funky that straight, and still like a battle. You can see the theatrics we put into the piece, to really emphasize the battling part. That ends more calmly, in a sort of agreement. Then, the original patterns return, with the interlocking sixteenths and then the phasing, to a booming end (pun intended). XD

So, I apologize again for my stupid camera, and I hope you enjoy what part of the piece is there. It's about half I think...

Oh, and, disregard how I caught my stick between the drums at the end of the piece :P It had been perfect until I did that....oh well.
