  • In 1962, I was 16 years old hearing this for the first time. I would lie under an old stereo console and play the record over and over. Two years later I was in VN and this music rang in my ears whenever we would go on patrol. Went to Rome in 1966 for the first time and walked the song...Still love it today even though I'm old and grey.

  • @dbryant4 The cabal of modernists all of whom are "too cool for school" have conspired to relegate him to obscurity but music is about melody, hormony, beauty and form. he is a major talent and his "Rome" Tone Poems are great.

  • @dbryant4 A delightful late Impressionist, and arguably the best orchestrator of the last century.

  • @flashfolds Same here all around. The year, my age, the music, my feelings. All the same. The only difference is I heard it through headphones in my high school library, where I was typing index cards for the librarian's classical record collection, which he was donating to the school. Whar music I discovered that semester!

  • Respighi was a fantastic composer who I feel has not yet been fully recognized for his genius. He affected modern music much more than he has been given credit for.

  • The description bar says 'no description available'... that's exactly right.

  • I love this piece so so much, but where was the second movement? :P every millisecond of this is amazing, you can't afford to miss out a whole movement :P

  • Fantasia 2000 brought me here

  • One of my favorites

  • Wauw what a colorful piece of music. I always loved this piece of music with its four parts. You can realy picture Rom infront of you when you here this music from ancient times till up today, with all its monuments and old buildings and churches and the lively atmosphere in there. Respighi was clever and a genius orchestral colorist. big paintings in harmonies.

  • Thank you for posting this. Classical music is my favorite genre and this is one of my favorites.
