This pulsed detonation engine was built and tested in 2005 at the UT Arlington Aerodynamics Research Center. This engine uses solenoid valve fuel injection and a modified automotive ignition system with hand built tungsten electrode spark plugs. The tube inner diameter is 25 mm. The PDE is running on a mixture of propane and oxygen at a detonation frequency of 25 Hz.

  • Let me see now. If I want to move my car with these, I'd need some ten or twenty, right? If thirty, I'm completely going to love this stuff just for the sound.

  • unfortunately, PDE's don't seem too likely to replace current engines. They're loud, have vibration issues, some lack rotatory shafts to drive generators/accessories, use exotic fuels, etc. Plus conventional engines are getting more efficient every few years. Not saying it wouldn't be cool, but they have a long long way to even catch up with todays jets.

  • I want one!!!

  • @MrMicraphone It would either just fall off the bike, rip the bike in half, or work, but cause you to go from standing, mach 1 in a few seconds and your body would be crushed.

  • @nickcars100 No aurora runs on imaginatium sir.

No seriously, the Aurora doesn't even exist.

  • What's the thrust gain vs a jet engine, pound per pound?

  • @nickcars100 When Elvis is flying it, he fills it up with gas.

  • Strap this bad boy to a mountain bike ..
