(Run TIme Approx. 100 min.)

Professor Zimbardo's talk takes its audience on a journey through the psychological processes of character transformation that are engaged when ordinary, good people turn into perpetrators of evil.

The abuses and tortures of Abu Ghraib prison serve as the case study for understanding such horrors not as the work of a few bad apples, but rather as the consequence of a set of identifiable Situational variables and Systemic forces of the "bad barrel" and the "bad barrel makers".

  • @psipsychologytutor But by punishing the 'bad apple' they can save the careers of the worthless officers who, at best, knew and did nothing. Every officer that didn't his or her job should have been on trial too.

  • They punished the "bad apple" and ignore the culture he is embedded in that made such actions possible.

  • I've seen the post cards. I work for an art college and we had purchased a book containing such materials. But the post card thing was very real. It's also very disturbing as well.

  • Awesome section; the "cult" of religion. It's funny; people can't even point to any scripture where Satan actually, personally, affected the life of anyone physically. The only exception is Job, even then used and allowed affected as an example of "devotion" to God. The only thing, biblically, attributable to Lucifer/Satan/Devil is the "challenge" of authority. These people have god issues, lifting themselves or others to that status.
