That penhold really hurt Lee on his bh side. This is why I'm hesitant to switch. I do prefer forehands with a penhold, but my backhands are so much better with the shakehand.
@MassHysteria92 Well that's just not true. Ryu Seung Min is ranked 15 in the world and Lee Jung Woo is ranked 27, I think, so they could easily beat the vast majority of table tennis players in the world, regardless of playing style. Ma Long is ranked no.2 in the world and was a much better player in this match; being a shakehander had nothing to do with it.
@MeckelBot Yeah, but that's an unfair comparison. Wang Hao is a consistency attacker, whereas Ma Long is a power attacker. Wang Hao plays a style based on not missing - Ma Long plays a much more aggressive game, based on landing a kill shot as early as possible. Also (and partly as a result of the above), Wang Hao generally plays further from the table than Ma Long and thus has more time to loop.
Ma Long is just outstanding. What makes him unique is that he never plays a defensive ball. Ev en in the hardest situations he attacks. Amazing how someone like that can dominate the sport!

a penhold player without an RPB stands no chance against a shakehand player
