I'm not a real collector by any stretch of imagination, but sometimes you just can't help yourself. Last week I managed to find eight classic titles for less than 5 bucks in total, and here's a little video showing off those recently purchased games. Apart from floppy disks and/or installation CDs, most of the fairly well-preserved boxes came complete with manuals, original registration and reference cards as well as any possible extra material (such as lore compendiums) included with the game when it was originally purchased.

Chronological list of the games:
Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon (1989)
Sorcerian (1990)
Spirit of Excalibur (1990)
BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Revenge (1990)
Ultima VI/Wing Commander (1991)
Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon (1991)
Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos (1993)
The Legend of Kyrandia: Malcolm's Revenge (1994)

  • awesome, where did ya find em?

  • In a small second-hand store. Have been there a few times but never seen any old games there before, so I guess I was just lucky...

  • now we're talkin! *pulls down pants*

  • Ha, I thought you'd like this. Not many rare games here, but finding a localized copy of an obscure Japanese PC RPG like Sorcerian was at least a bit unexpected...

  • GAH! Ultima 6, Lands of Lore and Space Quest 3 for less than 5 bucks? You lucky devil ! :P

  • You can tell video game companies really took pride in their games back then, just by the packaging alone. Just look at the artwork!

These days we get paper-thin cases and 2-page manuals. A shame.

  • back then the game manuals looked like pocketbooks.awesome.and today online manuals or not even one piece of paper

  • @BlueVek yesthe good old days i still have these games.vintage games are fun.spirit of excalibur, lands of lore, wing commander, and the old star wars games like Xwng or Tie fighter or Maniac Mansion etc.good stuff.

  • These games really represent a time when buying a new game was a big occasion, so publishers wanted to make sure the customers were getting what they paid for, nowadays we have to buy the "collectors edition" to get all the good stuff, otherwise we're stuck with a dvd case, a dvd that can only be used five times, stupid drm copy protection, and a manual in pdf form

  • Here in Belgium we don't have any of these "second-hand-stores-where-you-can-find-amazing-games-for-5-bucks". If I want to buy a "big box" game I have to pay up 50 bucks plus shipping on eBay. Which is a darn shame because I'm kinda obsessed over these old-school game packagings, and I'm a pretty poor bastard.

  • it's sweet, man

    fucking sweet

    thanks

  • Sniff ;-(

I really miss Sierra, just criminal how they snuffed out its candle.

That EA has only continued Westwood's C&C series and forgot others is also a bad thing.

  • great find bro
