I've been avoiding this subject because i dont want to piss anyone off, but I feel the very same way. We always forget about home when we see things like this, but the fact of the matter is we need to take care of home first. I cant stand the Red Cross

I understand your point. Not familiar with the ladies story. That is sad.

Interesting view on this...
I do understand where you are coming from because while doing Outreach the one thing I notice is that the resources are limited for people here or they make it pretty much impossible to get assistance...I do think we are doing right by reaching out and assisting Haiti. It is just the right thing to do- in my opinion but I also feel we need to tend to matters here as well.
What more "help" do we need in America? More food stamps, gov't housing, Medicaid, Free utilities, FREE hospitalization for delivering your sixth Welfare child? Plus the thousand other programs we have in this country. Let's not compare apples to oranges. Anyone who is healthy and chronically poor in this country, deserves to be. Help the truely helpless, and ignore the clueless.

I am glad you had your say but I don't think that I one time said to help those who could help themselves. There are many here who are chronically ill and not healthy that do not get the help they should while some who can help themselves are given the help that those others should have. I did not say don't help Haiti by all means help them but we all too often rush to help when they are in the news but when the cameras are gone and it is not news worthy any longer we move on to the next

the poverty here does not compare to the situation in Haiti. The people in haiti have 0 (zero). Just really think about it and look and compare.

I wasn't trying to compare the 2 and who needs more, I'm saying that we always run to help other people in other countries or elsewhere but don't help our own. I'm sure the woman who was hiding behind a bldg just to get a nap that the police grabbed and kicked because she wouldn't leave would feel differently, she has nothing as well. No food, home, shelter or friends and losing a grip on any faith, even the church turned her away. They feel like they are in Haiti although it doesnt compare. Tks

thank you so much for your response
I am just so torn by the whole situation but I volunteer at a lot of shelters and other programs that have had their funding severely cut cause supposedly we have no money and yet we find millions to send somewhere else

Exactly, they always say we don't have money for this or that but their huge salaries are still getting paid and they continue to cut the programs that are helping and leave the programs that are not...that's so they can hide those funds...lol...it's so sad how greedy they are at the expense of human beings...I don't see how they sleep at night...
