For the past three years, Greenpeace has been investigating the cattle industry in Brazil. Not only is the cattle industry the chief source of CO2 emissions in Brazil and also responsible for 80% of deforestation in the Amazon, it is also the largest single driver of deforestation anywhere in the world.

Our investigation exposed the Brazilian government's complicity in bankrolling the companies responsible for deforestation in the Amazon, as well as several top name shoe brands whose demand for leather may be supporting cattle ranchers that are illegally slaughtering the Amazon.

We have had many victories for the Amazon thanks to the release of the report and the campaigns we ran to urge the shoe companies to be part of the solution. Stay up to date on the latest news here:

  • I don't know how well you know this information, because in an Inconvenient Truth they actually show that the current rate of climate acceleration is mammoth and it's never been like this through our entire history. Even though there were periods of warming, it never went off the charts like it's stared doing over the last few years.

  • Great video.

Part of looking after our planet is being aware of where the things we buy come from.

As homeproject shows, we are all connected..destroying the rainforest can have a potentially devestating impact on us.

Aside from all the greenhouse gases and water wasted in meat production, there is also the impact on the area it is produced in, as this shows.

@ Theeminenthistorian...most of us have :) I have only lived in a place with more than 2000 peopl for the last 3 years.

  • Leather supports deforestation, especially the Amazon rain forests and other significant habitats. I'm Chinese, so I have to put up with people saying that China is horrible because it tolerates fur farms and animal abuse. China has many bad points, (interpret "many" however you wish) but there is a good side to it too.

  • The purpose of this video is not to tell viewers Brazil is a terrible country or anything, it's to show leather is

  • For Americans Organizations: Brasil is not a Iraq!

  • @lameirasp we rule the world stop being jealous, we have nukes and can kill everybody, I am not interested about the state of the plannet, I want to enjoy life

  • The deforestation is real, not only in brasil, but it doest happen in the way that you think. Come to brasil and see, but just if you are interested in learn something. Somenthing more than the TV shows you, bullshit.

  • you americans do everything to have more money, polute the world more than any other country and create more weapons and wars more than everyone. You think that you are the only one in the world and that you know averything. You dont know brasil and you dont know what is really going on. Im agaist the deforestation too. You accept everything that the TV show you , stop being idiot and try to change the image that the world has about the you, the image of the one that only think about himself!

  • @laurens890 thanks for playing

  • @phillip549 Well 70 % of all potential cancer medicines are found in tropical rainforests only. Farmaceutical companies are just starting to discover this undiscovered wealth and abundance of helpfull plant species which are currenly wiped out before our eyes.

  • @goldenlight7 It has been recorded as cooling consistently this year. IT IS ALMOST LIKE THE WEATHER CHANGES!?!!
