Old analog silent movie film of OV-1C Mohawks in formation over Arizona in May 1968. Aerial shots in formation flight. The formation flying is a practice session for an upcoming fly-over of General Meyer's retirement parade. Instructors at the school flew the aircraft. Although each C model only has one set of flight controls, two pilots were in each plane for safety reasons. The flight was led by Billy Taylor. An aerial view of Libby Army Airfield can be seen in a short scene in the middle of the movie. Fort Huachuca can also be seen in another view. Formation flight was conducted at 240 knots indicated airspeed. Movie taken by "redeye 6."

  • These aircraft I am sure flew over my future home....I remember seeing these wonderful birds fly over my house when I was a kid in the '80's. It's an unforgettable sound, and one that I have always enjoyed hearing.

I have listened to that video...very enjoyable!

  • Wow, OV-1 Super C - a great aircraft - lots of turbulence from the lead in tight formation - smoother air from thirty feet away - tremendous airframe and safety - could take off into a vietnamese thunderstorm, a Georgia thunderstorm even -

  • I remember seeing them flying over my house all through my childhood....I can still remember hearing those turboprops go over. I was pretty sad when they were retired...they were beautiful planes for sure.

  • My friends call my crazy, but I think the OV-1 is a great looking bird.

  • What a flash back! I was with the 131st during Tet also .. Was 16N20 but we stopped flying IR missions....repaired avionics & SLAR + worked the RAM hot processor/ photo lab for a few months .. Also with the 225th .. Spec 4 D.Dennis .. All the best to the BEST !

  • I, too, was a Mohawk crew chief with the 131st at Phu Bai from 67-68. Yep, I was there for the Tet Offensive. Worked for a while in the Maint. Shack keeping the records on all the 'birds'.
