Thank God for YouTube. Despite 27 years of listening to her albums, I did not appreciate the scope of her charisma, artistry and originality until YouTube made archival video of her work accessible. We'll never see KB's likes again because everything about her is so unique -- the voice, the songwriting ability, the fusion of dance and theater, the fact the music industry in the 1970s was desperate for an alternative to disco and punk, giving her the opening she needed to flourish.
She won popular recognition for her version of this song as "best cover" and it received widespread attention and worldwide airplay (along with compliments from Elton John). Her high energy performance and whimsical vocals infuse the lyrics with a far less woeful tone and reinterpret them into a much more philosophical and introspective message. Another terrific job by the unique, masterful, and beautiful Kate Bush.
