I am pretty sure it is a soft clay. Not sure what kind, but its just to depress the plug(fish) halfway so he can create half of the mold. Then fish and bondo mix are flipped and the 2nd side of the mold is made after clay is removed.

what is the bedding material used?
my cousin drank fiberglass resin. we don't know why. he has damaged his liver and kidney.
