missgavoops91: There have been many versions of the classic story, most of which are not of Disney creation. This series actually came out just a few years before the animated movie, and both are childhood favorites of mine. I highly recommend you checking it, and all the other incredible variations, out as soon as you can.
A good starting point is Wikipedia, which lists a number of said endeavors. Enjoy!

SquirtsFan: Er... no, not really. Queen's "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" have been termed as "sports tributes," yet they have been used in other genres to great effect.
At any rate, I feel it is entirely appropriate as a tribute to this series. To me, these characters are as heroic as (or even more than) any athlete- just in a different way.
