http://www.pbs.org/frontline/warning/ In this clip from "The Warning," airing Tues, Oct. 20, FRONTLINE examines the long road that led Brooksley Born to her post as the chairperson of the federal regulatory agency Commodities Futures Trading Commission—a position that pit her directly against the president's pro-business, anti-regulation economic powerbrokers, including Chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Greenspan.
In the devastating aftermath of the economic meltdown, FRONTLINE sifts the ashes for clues about why it happened and examines critical moments when it might have gone much differently. Looking back into the 1990s, veteran FRONTLINE producer/director Michael Kirk ("Inside the Meltdown," "Breaking the Bank") discovers early warnings of the crash, reveals an intense battle among high-ranking members of the Clinton administration and uncovers a concerted effort not to regulate the emerging, highly complex and lucrative derivatives markets that would become the ticking time bomb within the American economy.

this is all smoke and mirrors and nothing will get better until we regain control of the federal reserve. In case you didn't know, the federal reserve is a PRIVATE COMPANY. It is not part of the government. So basically our monetary system is run by a FOR-PROFIT company not run by congress.congress is not even allowed to see what is done with our money. Congressman ron paul proposed a bill to audit the fed and it is in your best interests to support this in any way you can
Eliot Spitzer was investigating NYSE & Wall Street and they didn't like it. When he was thrown out, the greedy bastards celebrated! He was always on the side of the people as it was his job to go after these criminals.
I second the FACT that Greenspan and his cohorts, yes cohorts, are protégés of Ayn Rand. That is beyond scary, but huge wake up call. What else of Rand do they adhere to? How many of their "friends" also follow Rand's philosophical views? And are any of them in positions of "power" now?
Actually, Frontline truncated the story a little. Born was originally rejected in favor of Zoe Baird, a younger and "more dynamic" woman, but she had to withdraw her name because of revelations about not paying social security for her kids' immigrant nanny. The next nominee was Kimba Woods, who also faded in the face of a "Nannygate" scandal. Reno was the third pick. Clinton's quest for a female Attorney General could be the subject of a whole other "Frontline" installment.
