@anominos , they still ride on the shrine, but not in the temple grounds, only up and down the streets outside.

Good question! No they don't. From this year the police enacted a strict policy of no riding on the portable shrines. I searched the crowd and I came across a public relations excersize where the Yakuza boss, surrounded by his faithful underlings, allowed women and children to get photographed with him and his gang. They did not however ride the shrine.
