  • NBC was still using quad in 82? Who woulda thunk it.

  • @shstrang98 This tape was recorded from the network feed by an affiliate station. Don't know how much quad was still in use by the network at that time.

  • You have a quad deck???

  • Yes, we have several. This segment was played on an Ampex VR-1200.

  • Program was recorded 2/22/82

  • It's rare to see what you don't see after Willard says,"Here's what's happening in your world this morning...",and see what you just saw in that clip.Usually they relay it to a local NBC station (My case WMAQ-TV in Chicago, saying something like "43 degrees at Channel 5,it will rain in Chicago today,...").

  • @bmasters1981 I kind of like the studio they have now. I actually been there before. I like this set better then the one they had a few years ago. I do like the set from back then as well, and from when Tom Brokaw was on "Today". That set was quite retro. I think "Today" is a okay news show. I watch it and everyone is pretty good except Meredith Vieira. Also, NBC need to cut the show to 2 hours.

  • @coolwafferman Good point, there. On a somewhat unrelated tangent, NBC should bring that studio design back for today's version of the "Today" show. I still might not watch, but it might liven it up a bit for those who do, I think.

  • @bmasters1981 Probably just a slip up. It happens to most of us. He probably thought it was 8:07,but it probably was 8:30.

  • @coolwafferman He certainly did. I read it as 8:07:30, though. I don't understand however, what he meant by adding the "30" onto the time.

  • Did Bryant Gumbel say 8:07-30? lol

Also this is great. I like how the news was back then. They were great.

  • Wow, this looks great! Did you have to replace the heads? Is it solid state? How do you get replacement parts?
