Namely that through thought, emotion and judgement your mind is generally in charge of you, but it is possible through Awareness-training to be in control of your mind, thoughts and emotions without them controlling you.

Karl actually touches upon serious existentialist thought here, and Steve and Ricky just laugh. His questions are very philosophical (and very insightful), and even relate to a lot of Buddhist teaching Awareness, Presence, nonjudgement, nonattachment and not-form.
