Built on a salt marsh, the development of the southern Israeli city of Eilat has threatened the migration of million's of birds who naturally stop in the area when they migrate to Europe. A bird sanctuary on 7% of the original area run by Professor Reuven Yosef is currently providing the only refuge for these birds but is now threatened by limited funds due to the recession.
