A tribute to all those who fell here during the Great war 1914-1918. Pictures include: the menin gate and Thiepval Memorial and The Bloody Salient. It also inlcudes following pictures of: Vimy ridge, Beaumont Hamel. Tyne cot (and other commonwealth cemertaries) and also two German cemetaries; Langemark and Neuville-St Vaast and also pictures of vimy ridge, Beaumont Hamel and Ypres trenches. I hope you enjoy this video as i did in travelling around France and Belgium.
P.S
Due to Youtubes low resolution you will not be able to make out the grave stone of V.J Strudwick who died age 15.

  • Very moving, more people should go to Ypres and see for themselves.

  • I agree my trip opened my eyes to the loss and the somme i could see for myself the mass loss of life thanks for commenting :)

  • It's always weird going to these things- I recently went to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp near Berlin and it's a really odd feeling. Good video btw. (Guess who as well!)

    What is the song?

RIP All Who Died From 212 (Risca) Squadron Air Training Corps UK

  • i went to all those places, omg i found my relitives there , at that german lamarck grave yard and at the gate ypres on the wall , and they both were on diffrent sides, 1 from ireland and 1 from hungary, so sad, to see them there

  • is there a video on youtube about the canadians at Ypres?

  • From the places you went, it looks very much like the itinerary of the Leger "All quiet on the Western Front" tour.

    Was it?

I did that one, my guide was a historian called Paul Reed (author of Walking the Somme). Absolutely brilliant tour but very moving too.

It stayed with me for a long time.

What really drives home the scale of loss is the cemetaries, so so many of them.

Our party found a live shell in the sunken lane below Hawthorne redoubt mine crater.
