Jackson C. Frank's incredibly beautiful rendition of this traditional song. Sadly, I don't have it in better quality, without the background noise.

p.s. I have no copyright on the image used in the video and on the music. All rights belong to their respective owners.

  • @TheVelvetBride I don't think I've ever "thanked" someone for uploading a video before...But this is such an amazing rendition of this song; I love Jackson C. Frank and I'm not sure how I didn't find this until now-- thank you for sharing it!

  • @summers15789 My pleasure. You are very much welcome!

  • god i wish there was a better version of this. was this ever released on an album or anything?

  • @PhantomLord No, I think. His one and only official album released in 1965 with the help of Paul Simon contains only his most famous songs recorded with normal studio quality. Some other songs, and actually everything now available from Jackson C. Frank, can be found on a 2-CD compilation called "Blues Run the Game" (I'm not even sure it's something official). This particular track is off of that compilation and is with the quality you hear in this video. :/

  • @TheVelvetBride damn that's really a shame. this is the most beautiful rendition of this song i've ever heard. Whatever record label his cd is on should really consider audio restoration for his less polished tracks. like i said it's a damn shame :(

  • @PhantomLord Yep, I completely agree with you. :/

  • To those who don't like quality, just download the song and play it in vlc. Tweak the equalizer to cut off the high frequency sounds and enable 2 pass. Should be much better.

  • To all you recent to this mans music do you see a movement coming?...That movie is going to bust him wide open and I can see a re-release...such a tragic magic man of music.

  • I guess this track didn't make it because of the lyrics, "black girl, black girl, don't lie to me" ppl might perceive it as racist. This song was written in the 1870's. Great version, though, thanks for posting.

  • Still beautiful......

  • I like it. It's like you're listening to an old LP

  • just got on to jcf after being a nick drake fan for years. can really see an influence in drake's work.. the voice and even guitar style

i lold a bit at the not-so-pine tree used for the video. regardless, thanks for the post!

  • Just discovered this dude like...an hour ago (when I heard one of his songs covered in the trailer for the movie "Martha Marcy May Marlene"), and now I'm hunting down his stuff like a madman. Such a haunting voice, amazing.

  • lovely song ,thanks*)
