Blowing the dust off more Group B footage that hasn't been broadcast since the 80s.
Markku Alen had been waiting all year for this rally having had struggle with a two wheel-drive the last two years against the might of Audi and Peugeot.
Alen was under pressure though, should Peugeot win then they will have won the Manufactures title for the second year running. So a Lancia sent Kalle Grundle in a one off signing and Mikael Ericsson to back up Alen in S4s. Peugeot responded fielded Timo Salonen, Juha Kankkunen and Stig Blomqvist in 205 T16 E2s
Alen showed he ment business from the get go setting ten fastest stage times on the first ten stages to open up a 38 second lead by the overnight half of that day. Which in 1000 lakes terms was huge.
With 34 stages gone and 13 remaining on the final day Alen held a 25 second lead over Salonen closely followed by Kankkunen.
But the pressure got to much and Markku entered a 2nd gear corner in 3rd and rolled the ca into and ditch and lost all hopes off winning the rally loosing nearly 3 minutes getting the car back on the road. For the second year running Peugeot and Timo Salonen had won.
can i get the name of the sound track at the start? thanks
