Just some drive bys of my Jetta before I over revved the 85mm bore short block and spun a rod bearing. Stock cams with 3.94 R&P to name a few. 174whp and 180trq. Big turbo build followed by this engine blew up
@urgrandmascar You should be ashamed of yourself for owning a car and knowing jack shi*t about it. The mk3 vr6 from 91-98 is DOHC. Im not saying this is the only DOHC vw VR6 just implying that the entire third generation vr6 jetta is DOHC
@VW2LJetta02 He might not be able to comprehend that, dont confuse him by saying that. Btw the design theory is in essence SOHC because each cam operates the intake and exhaust valves in one bank. However it is still DOHC because theres 2 cams in the one cylinder head. Its almost a catch 22 because they contradict themselves..
To answer you guys' question, there really have never been anything but a SOHC VR6. VW put that label on the manifold cover, but it wasn't. They are 2V per cylinder (12V are) and have one cam per bank of cylinders. VR6's are not V6, obviously, but think of them as 2 I-3's connected at the crank. 1,3,5 have a cam, 2,4,6 have a cam.
@gonzalezwasalex oh haha really? it doesnt on mine...unless the previous owner took the plastic engine cover off.. but isnt it normally engraved on the engine? and someone was telling me that they didnt make dohc for 1995 and older...is that right?
CAN ANYONE TELL ME if there is a major performance difference between a SOHC vr6 and a DOHC vr6. or can u tell me if my 1995 mk3 gold vr6 is DOHC or SOHC?
This sound is amaizing VR6 the best !!! :)

hahaha no dude. seeing how a vr6 is a staggered 15 degree cylinder offset theres a cam per 3 cylinders making it a double overhead cam..
