Some time back I had come up with this idea to try to explain to others, what is inflammatory bowel disease, and although I could describe my own situation, I decided to broaden my search in describing IBD by asking others how they would describe it. What words would you use if you were asked by someone that does not have Inflammatory Bowel Disease to make them understand what we really go through? My idea for this public service announcement was hatched.

This is a compilation of the responses we received on our fan page on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/UnitedColonVlog

Along with our own thoughts and descriptive words, we put it to music: Boyce Avenue--Skyscraper cover. The lyrics are perfect as they talk about how you can be broken down (in this case, by illness), but you can rebuild and come out stronger. That's what we all hope and strive for. This is a message of HOPE.

Maybe this can be a way for others to have an idea through our words even if they never understand how it feels...

"Never let go of hope. One day you will see that it all has finally come together. What you have always wished for has finally come to be. You will look back in amazement at what you have been through and you will ask yourself... 'How did I get through it all?" ~Unknown

  • The music eventually got on my nerves big-time. Over-emoting. Message was lost because it was so overdone.

  • @auramac do you have inflammatory bowel disease? The impact of this video was to evoke emotion to broaden awareness for those battling IBD. I am sorry you felt that this was over-emoting but when fighting an incurable disease you may be aware that emotions can run strong...I disagree with you that the message was lost-I feel it was very impacting but you are fully entitled to your opinion. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for your efforts. You manage to comfort, validate, and inspire us!

  • @auramac you are so OUT OF LINE HERE. I ask the same question as the uploader.... do YOU have IBD? doesnt sound like it. If you did, you would most like understand... guess you just can't please them all......

  • Guys:

My 20 year daughter has suffered from Croihn's/Colitis since she was 12.

In 2010 she underwent a total ileostomy, however, it did not prove to be the end of her problems.

But despite all the ongoing pain and related difficulties, she perseveres and refuses to let her illness define her.

Your PSA is fantastic and really sheds light on this devastating and terribly misunderstood disease.

Well done and best regards from Canada.

    A proud parent

  • Nadia and Dennis, this was/is such a beautiful & powerful video of an awful disease. You both have encouraged me so much over the last 2 years, since my Colostomy. Thank you again for being so transparent with your battle and all of 'stuff' that goes along with that. God bless you both, and thank you again for giving me hope to go on living with 'new stuff' I never thought I'd have to live with. thanks! Debbie
