After subduing Spark Mandrill and restoring electricity back to the city, X is prompted to raid the underwater base beneath the marine city, which has been usurped by none other than Launch Octopus. Ordered to show no restraint, X must stop Octopus in order to restore ship traffic and the peace of the city. Once a Maverick Hunter himself, Octopus, an experienced fighter and strategist, awaits patiently for X's arrival.

After the past few stages, Launch Octopus' level proves to be a mixed bag of surprises. Although enemy placement isn't necessarily bothersome, the level almost consists of battling multiple sub-bosses -- two Anglerge and Utuboros. The Heart Tank housed in this stage must be obtained after defeating an Utuboros, which can only be accessed after destroying the lone Cruiziler floating next to the whirlpool turbine.

PS: The Snes9x has problems recording multiple transparencies.

BACKGROUND:

Built with superb capabilities, Launch Octopus was once a former Maverick Hunter modeled after an octopus and part of the marine armada under Sigma's command. Having served for a considerable time, Launch Octopus grew tired of his duties, but mostly of the humans he swore to protect, as he deemed them unworthy and cowards to their own cause. As a Hunter, he was amply experienced with firepower with vast military knowledge to boot, as such, he rather preferred using his brains over his brawns. Regardless of such methods, Launch Octopus was no stranger to battle and actually enjoyed it and felt pleasure as he fought his way with majestic elegance and grace.

As Sigma revolted exalting his Reploid-only revolution, and having grown doubtful of his purpose, Launch Octopus didn't hesitate into joining the revolt. Having served Sigma as a Maverick Hunter, Launch Octopus continued his marine-driven role taking over an underwater base beneath the marine city preventing any and all ship traffic.

MISCELLANEOUS:

• Although Subterranean Base / 地下基地 is the official and most common name of this stage, it is also known as Ocean / Sea Stage / 海中ステージ.

-TRIVIA-

• Launch Octopus' siding with Sigma came from his own volition, as he deemed humans unworthy and pathetically weak.
• It appears Launch Octopus had some form of relationship with Squid Adler. Apparently they were either friends or brothers; however, which is entirely unknown... Nothing official has been made about it.
• In the Mega Man X manga, Launch Octopus is the seventh Maverick X faces, who swayed a fellow Reploid of X to fight alongside him. (Due note that this is a non-canon scenario.)
• In the Mega Mission carddas released by Bandai, Dr. Doppler revived Launch Octopus. In it, he's remodeled and renamed Launcher Octopuld HL, where the 'HL' stands for "hyper limited". His appearance is changed, showing a more sleek design, and with a trident as a final complement. (Due note that this is a non-canon scenario.)
• Upon receiving Launch Octopus' weapon after its defeat, its name is spelled wrongly to "Horming Torpedo".

-OBSCURE TRIVIA-

(Based on ROM data, Launch Octopus' stage holds many mysteries...)
• A third, orange-colored Anglerge.
• Sprites for an unnamed, unused Mechaniloid that resembles a jellyfish.
• Data for a "duplicate" unused boss room.

  • Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... that second Anglerge. THAT'S the reason that this rage stage is tough. Not that rapist Octo, or the Utaburos. Not even the first Anglerge, it's a cakewalk.

  • Yeah, the second one is a bit tricky. But once you get the hang of it, it shouldn't be that hard.

  • Why is sting chameleon's left eye different from the right one?

  • It's explained on the playthrough video of his stage: watch?v=9C6lRDP2tlg.

    Short answer: sniping.

  • is megaman x, x2, and x3 avail. on the wii shopping thing? mine isn't hooked up to the internet.

  • X2 is slated to be released soon, with X3 coming afterwards, although I'm not sure when exactly.

  • Oh god, the memories... Launch Octopus was always one of the last three bosses I took on, along with Mandrill and Kuwanger. So by the time I went to his stage, I was feeling fuckin' powerful and awesome. Megaman X is very probably the best game I ever/will ever have play(ed) in my entire life. Oh, and I was born in 1992, so this was one of the first games I ever played. :D

  • quien sea que lo maneje es Bueno ;)

  • Electric Spark? Defeat Spark Mandrill...

  • how do you get the thunder?
