ANCHOR:
75 years ago an estimated four to six million people died of forced starvation in Ukraine. The event named Holodomor is considered a genocide by the leaders of four countries. Politicians and public figures gathered to mark the tragedy. Here's more from Kyiv, Ukraine.

STORY:
Between 1932 and 1933 there was a great famine, the Holodomor. It was caused by food requisition actions carried out by Soviet authorities. Families died, villages died, and whole regions were wasted. Ukraine became a death trap for millions of children and adults.

People were absolutely forbidden to talk about it. Doing so was considered to be slandering the Soviet regime and was punished severely.

During the famine people ate grass, dock, roots, anything that might be eatable. Some people survived, but many didn't.

Kateryna Tkachenko remembers those days. She had seven brothers and sisters, but only three of them survived. Her parents also died. Kateryna was born in 1929, so she remembers the famine mostly according to her older sister's stories. But she can still remember one episode herself.

[Kateryna Tkachenko, Holodomor survivor]:
"My younger brother lay on his death bed. I don't remember anything else but I remember him. He lay there and asked: give me, give me, give me with his hands. Later he died."

On the anniversary of Holodomor, days of commemoration were declared throughout the whole country. Several Ukrainian scientists, politicians and clergy, and guests from other countries, gathered at a forum in the Opera House of Kyiv to give their condolences. Presidents of Poland, Georgia, Latvia and Lithuania gave speeches. Also former and current Presidents of the United States and Ireland sent statements of support.

The tragic events of that time were reenacted on stage: Along with a song about Stalin, soldiers take away the last wheat from farmers. Corpses of dead people are taken away on wagons. It was forbidden to travel to other villages or cities, and people would be shot just for taking a spikelet of wheat from the field.

[Petro Arsenych, Associate Professor]:
"The communist party and also western countries are guilty for what happened. Some of them came here as a reporters. The regime told them a lie and they reported that there was no starvation in Ukraine.

[Nina Matvienko, Singer]:
"Those who did it created another generation of barbarians. And they continue to trample on their souls. If we don't remember, we wont have a future. No matter who was trampled, I call on everyone today, to remember for the sake of the future of your children.

On the same evening, the memorial of the famine in Ukraine was consecrated. President of Ukraine, Viktor Yuschenko made a proclamation.

[Viktor Yuschenko, President of Ukraine]:
"We call on everyone, and the Russian Federation, together as honest, real and pure brothers, to condemn the crimes of Stalin and the totalitarianism of the Soviet Union."

On many squares of Ukraine, thousands of candles were lit to remember those who were killed by forced starvation.

At the moment, 14 parliaments of countries around the world have recognized the famine of 1932 to 1933 to be the genocide of the Ukrainian nation.

  • It's true that the Holodomor affected several countries, but the fact is that 85% of the victims were Ukrainians. We shouldn't forget the Russians or anyone else who died from the genocide, but this was without question primarily a Ukrainian tragedy.

  • The man who did this was a communist who didn't believe in any religion. He collaborated with the Holocaust.Jews were prosecuted and killed also in URSS.He wasn't alone,a full gang of bastards helped him. Communists had no creed or race.Communism is a religion, the state and the "party" was God and the Capital was there Bible. That is what happens with extremisms and with people who put ideologies or religion over human beings. Stop blamming Jews for all the disgraces of history. You are obsesed.

  • Do not listen to Dr.Mundo74.

On other uploads he writes in Russian that Ukraienin nation doesn't exist and that Stalin is good, etc. He is a Russian Chauvinist, who hates Ukraine and would do anything to deny THE TRUTH.

  • JEWS are responsible for 80% of modern ills.

Opium wars, Taiping Rebellion, communization of Russia resulting in 60 million deaths, communization of China resulting in 50 million deaths, WW1, WW2, Middle East (JEWS control US foreign policy, Google AIPAC), Holodomor (7 million starved to death by JEWS), 911 (Mossad caused collapse and used their main stream media power to pin blame on Arabs, thus lobbying the US government to increase military support in Middle East to protect Israels interest

  • @LordMalice6d9 yeah, no movies because the soviet xews are still killing in Palestine and they have the same plans for the U.S.

  • anti semitism was a death penalty, but they were murdered anyway xews killed Christians,

  • @telumears Stop blaming other Christians, it was ONLY done by the soviet xews.

  • @asunagullo this is why the xews were in auschwitz, they were siding with their cousins the soviet xews to kill Christians all over Russia.

  • What you have to understand is that Stalin was an ordained JESUIT PRIEST! As was the founder of the "enlightened ones", Weishaupt. Guess who was also raised Jesuit catholic and was very close to the Pope...that's right... HITLER! Are you starting to get it yet?!

  • Stalin and the Russia's Bolsheviks were guilty of numerous genocides, the most heinous, cunning and clever, was the Holodomor--murder by hunger--by engineered famine in 1930s Ukraine.
