It is a small "lamp" that you place calcium carbide and water inside, producing acetylene gas, when lit this gas emits a very orange flame with very sooty smoke. this smoke is then applied to the front sight of a competition rifle, allowing the user a more distinct front sight for more precise and accurate shot placement and a higher score.
