Well, there are only so many types of kicks, lol. I recognized it as a karate kick because I took karate.

If you're thinking of the whole "animal styles" things and most of those are not used in fights, even by kung fu experts. You learn those to learn balance. Even MMA fighters can learn some kung fu to help learn to balance yourself. As for real fighting, there are techniques in kung fu that are efficient in real fights, this is one of them(though this is actually a karate kick) Just a simple, quick kick that you can put a lot of power into. Meant to knock people down.
Im sure some of the techniques are used, just adapted slightly through natural instince. Styles like Muay Thai, Jujutsu and kickboxing probably do so well because they are so close to our natural style.

its also the taekwon do kick. One kick isn't used in only one MA lol
