This is the Moving Axis AirCraft Simulator experiment, Episode 4. In this video we are using a large PVC pipe frame. More information about MAACS and other motion flight simulators here: http://www.rogerdodger.net/motion/maacs/maacs_home.html . .

  • Yes, you are right about not being able to see the keyboard mod. That was one of the problems of a virtual reality headset.....ooops.

I tried strong bungee cords to center the joystick, but they were not strong enough to pull the counterweight assembly back to level once it was tipped up or down. I didn't want to use stronger bungee cords because I was worried one would snap loose and hurt someone.

  • It was coming along quite nicely, and its clear that you were positively psyched with your creation.

At 3:53, that HAD GOT to hurt!

Laughed my ass off with that one!

The throw issue should have been rather simple to fix.

A stopper on both ends to limit the travel of the dumbell should have done the trick.

Lets see what you did then.

    :-)

Cheers Matt, thanks for the update.

  • Well, there were stoppers for the counterweights. The problem was not that they were going to roll off the ends of the simulator. The problem was that I had to pull when I should be pushing on the joystick (and vice-versa). In other words, the counterweights should have built-in positive stability to naturally return the joytick to center.

  • personally, i would have put a couple of monitors so i could have seen the keyboard, and the view would look better.

  • maybe u need to put like foam on the edges so when it hits the ground it wont hurt he wood... or u :-)

  • I agree. You are clearly excited about this project. However, what good does the keyboard do if you can't see it? Even in your current flight helmet, if you've got the VR stuck on your eyeballs, how are you going to see the keys?

My thoughts on fixing the push/pull issue is simple rubber bands. two pulling opposite directions. Curious to see what you did.

    Good update.
