Removal of a Subretinal Neovascular Membrane in an eye with Ocular Histoplasmosis Syndrome. This video is about 7 minutes long and shows a 20 gauge vitrectomy. The patient has 20/400 visual acuity from a subretinal neovascular membrane. He has had previous laser for ocular histoplasmosis syndrome
I had a detached retina -- now I am left with 20/50 vision -- it was recomended that I have the membrane removed -- risk - will it decrease my vision if not successful or what is the chance that I have another detached retena

Had this done myself, didn't get much of my vision back, was 20/400 now 20/200.This surgery was done in 2007. Well I have this in both my eyes my right eye had scar tissue connected to my retnia and they can't do this surgery so I have had 4 laser surgeries on my right eye now and the shots you get every 6 months to make your eyes strong, which I get in both my eyes. I have some what come to terms that one day I wont see anything,

Awesome video! I had this same surgery 5 or 6years ago. It saved my eyesight! I went from 20/200 to 20/60. I was awake during it and could see the little forceps taking away the neovascular membrane.

Is the vision of the patient improved? My Dad has hysto and has had now for a little over 30 years...could this be a possible surgical procedure to help him to regain some of his eyesight? He is legally blind now, due to scars over the optic nerve.

In the Ohio Valley. I hope u don't have it either. I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Lots of ppl have scars and don't even know it. My right eye is not bad at all since I have never had laser surgery in it. I can look past those scars easy. I haven't heard anything about the scars turning up years later but the Histo. can act up after years of inactivity. My longest time is 4 months with no activity. Hope for the best and live for the day!

I have progressive Bi-occular Histoplasmosis and was told that this type of surgery would be the last resort to save my vision. I have been curious since my diagnosis 5 years ago and found this to be helpful in understanding just how invasive the surgery would be. I am very happy to stick with Avastin injections at this point!
