In the beginning of this video, the narrator sounds very condescending when he explain how the western American masters have gone into an ordeal to educate the backward Oriental Iranians. Only to be educated by their masters. An example of 70's racism.

Each person brings their own meaning to the film. I didn't read a condescension into it. I don't know your age and experience, but my impression is that Iran's rate of literacy and technical proficiency are vastly improved from the late 1970's. Many, if not most, of the American employees and their families were completely unprepared for their initial encounter with Irani culture and world view.

I love the voiceover "most of the Iranians being trained in the F-14 had no more than a highschool education" and then you hear the young Iranian speak in fluent english. Pretty good education i would say if they're all bilingual.

The pilots and other officers were extremely fluent, and most of the senior homafars (NCOs) were comfortable in English. Their subordinates - mostly draftees - were not, but were in the midst of picking it up as a part of their technical training. Most of the airbase security unit were not at all conversant in English, but the American contractors knew enough Farsi to know when they were being told to halt, and none were shot.
