Just a note - the final shot of Sherlock (at least, before he walks away) parallels the first shot of the episode, John at the psychiatrists - the angle is practically identical, the look of loss on their faces the same. This show is filmed so beautifully.
Now excuse me whilst I CRY FOREVER

What do you think? At the empty house, It will be the lovely hug first or the punch in the face?

I saw this episode, and just started yelling about how Moffat was a bastard. I love him, BUT THE THINGS HE DOES TO MY LITTLE FANGIRL HEART?!?!!?!?!!?! He makes me so DAMN mad sometimes.

MOFFFAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT

Sherlock's face at the end is what tears me up the most. You can tell that all he wants to do is tell John that he's NOT dead.
-
Took all of 15 seconds for me to tear up

@pegasusdreams1 You're probably right, but if Sherlock hadn't done this Watson wouldn't have been alive to punch anyone. I'm sure he'll appreciate this when he thinks about it.

Sherlock at the end '... Your welcome John...'
So, just to summarise:
John has lost the one thing that pulled him out of what was basically a sleepwalking existence, and sure, he's nearly been blown up and killed several times, but in the end, he's left without his friend, and thus without much of a life at all.
And Sherlock's lost his home, his friends, his ability to solve cases, which is really what keeps him sane, or as sane as he can get....pretty much everything.
So they've both pretty much lost it all.
DAMMIT SHOW.

Who else thinks John is going to punch Sherlock in the face after all this?
