My brother Jerry and I flew to Oshkosh for AirVenture 2011. We camped on the airfield. The arrival turned out to be a non issue--we didn't see another airplane until over Ripon and that was a twin above us. We were given the option of landing either runway 9 or 36, and chose runway 9 because the railroad tracks lead you right to the airport from over Fisk. After landing it took 30 minutes on a scenic tour to get to parking. Airventure was an experience like no other. There is so much going on. My raw video had no obvious themes and therefore I resorted to the expediency of "visual vignettes." The compilation of scenes gives an impression of only one person's perspective. Camping by our airplane was neat. We were in the South 40, which was about as far away as you can get. We could sit under the wing on our lawn chairs and watch the flying. Our location off the arrival end of runway 36 afforded some unique shots of airplanes, especially the departure of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Most people (and therefore their camera angles) were at the other end of the runway. Departing (Sat. AM, rwy 36) Oshkosh was not a problem. The procedures are straight forward and the controllers do a great job. In 46 years of flying this was my first time at AirVenture. It was well worth the trip. Special thanks to my cousin Pat for the accordion music!

  • This is possibly the best video of Oshkosh that I have ever seen. Being from the personal point of view made me feel as if I was right there with you. It honestly gave me that chill and thrill of what it is all about. I do not have my license yet, but with the inspiration felt here I have found a new drive to succeed. My license has been put on the back burner because of financial difficulties, however the drive to be "up there" is now more overwhelming than ever before. THANKS ! Dave Hatton
