On the evenings of September 5th and 6th, 2010 strong thunderstorms developed over the east coast metro areas of southern Florida and produced periods of heavy rainfall with intense electrical activity.

The slow-moving storms produced very heavy rainfall, with several observing stations in Broward county reporting accumulations between 3-4 inches, with locations in Miami-Dade county receiving amounts of 1-2 inches.

This clip shows the vivid lightning display produced by the September 6th storm over downtown Miami, Florida. Power flashes were observed just north of downtown Miami with one of the more intense cloud-to-ground strikes.

  • I had cousins in from LA visiting me in Miami and they LOVED this storm! Some tourists love our sun, these two loved our storms. Great clip...once again, thanks

  • @moilman Haha... there should be an entire tourist industry in Miami just for storm lovers!

  • What model camera are you using? The picture is incredibly clear. Nice video.

  • I really miss the storms in Florida. The warm rain, high wind speeds, and dark blue sky.

Even the people are nice... at least.. they don't give a shit about you. And for some reason that makes a warm place in my heart for them. :3

  • thank you

  • This video is so immersive its unreal! I was so engrossed in this video, with the rolling thunder and all. I just wish that constant hum wasn't there in the background. Takes away from the thunder. Other than that, I have watched the video countless times. It's mesmerizing. Thank you!!

  • UncleSlim: I was in Miami and Fort Lauderdale back in February of '98. My brother was living in Fort Lauderdale at that time. The weather wasn't that bad; except that Monday morning when it was raining. My father, my other brother, and I were in the airport terminal in Fort Lauderdale at the time. That Saturday morning, I was watching the Weather Channel at my brother's apartment and it was 47 degrees in Philadelphia (where I have lived all of my life) that day; while it was in the 70's there.

  • @nanlisa I think it rather depends on what time of year you choose to visit. I went there once in mid-November 1992 and apart from the odd shower (not always accompanied by thunder and lightning) the weather was fairly good. Never too hot, just bearable. I know where you are coming from. I cannot stand high humidity either.

I agree. NO part of Florida is tropical. Belize, Panama, Manaus are all tropical . Miami is NOT.

  • 1:43 for creepy horror movie moment.

  • looks like the buildings are animated
