My DIY Camera Crane / Jib was made from parts I bought at Menards hardware store here in Illinois. I went with the pulley design over the parallelogram design to limit the weight of the crane arm. I have yet to apply the counter acting cable supports, not sure I need it.

In part 2 I will show you how to make it.
