XXL Winner Grant Twiggy Baker Implicated in $50,000 Grommett Abuse Claim
Puerto Escondido, Mexico (Friday, May 14, 2010). In the days following his win at the XXL Big Wave Awards in California, Grant Twiggy Baker sought solace from the paparazzi at a surf destination in southern Mexico. It was here that Twiggy became embroiled in a classic case of grommet abuse on Sebastian Williams, a surfer celebrating his 10th birthday at the beach.
A youtube video clearly shows the world famous big wave surfer manhandling the boy. Baker (37) pushes, drags and throws Sebastian to the ground before pinning the victim face down with his knees, while rubbing sand on his back and head.
A shadowy figure who insider sources identified as the elusive Michael Flame Robinson (after whom the Madagascan surf spot Flameballs was named) denied witnessing the event. "I didnt see anything," he claimed, despite the video footage placing him at the scene of the incident in question. South African tourist Kate Lovemore (27) said "I saw it. It was worth it. A good, good birthday sand bath."
But the young surfer had this to say. "He kicked me and gave me a sand bath. Its time for Twig to hand over his $50,000 XXL check to me. I forgive him, but I can't forget what he did to me on my birthday."
FOOTNOTE: Also shown in the video is a bone jarring wipeout Twiggy suffered days later, Keala Kennelly on a really big wave, along with tow partner Greg Long taming a big blue beast. Big wave tube rider par excellánce Noel Robinson passed away in the heaving barrels. God bless you Noel. You are a good friend to all of us.
