My understanding of this song was that it was the lead singer's 24th Birthday, It's about taking time out of your life to look back at your past and recognize the things you need to change to be a better person. I don't think it's about god in Particular though. Switchfoot has usually been on the middle ground as far as their songs having religious Connotations.
