''Gold''
Songwriter:Gary Kemp
-----------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for coming home
I'm sorry that the chairs are all worn
I left them here I could have sworn

these are my salad days
slowly being eaten away
just another play for today
oh but I'm proud of you,but I'm proud of you

nothing left to make me feel small
luck has left me standing so tall

(Chorus)
gold
always believe in your soul
you've got the power to know
you're indestructable
always believe in,because you are
gold
glad that you're bound to return
there's something I could have learned
you're indestructable,always believe in

after the rush has gone
I hope you find a little more time
remember we were partners in crime

it's only two years ago
the man with the suit and the pace
you knew that he was there on the case
now he's in love with you,he's in love with you
my love is like a hard prison wall
but you could leave me standing so tall

(Chorus)
gold
always believe in your soul
you've got the power to know
you're indestructable
always believe in,because you are
gold
I'm glad that you're bound to return
something I could have learned
you're indestructable,always believe in

my love is like a hard prison wall
but you could leave me standing so tall

(Chorus)
gold
always believe in your soul
you've got the power to know
you're indestructable
always believe in,because you are
gold
I'm glad that you're bound to return
something I could have learned
you're indestructable,always believe in

The song was released in 1983 and it peaked at #2 in the UK and at #29 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart making it their 2nd most successful single behind their previous release "True." Band member Gary Kemp started writing this as a spoof of James Bond theme songs, specifically Goldfinger. The BBC used it in their coverage of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The band,Spandau Ballet, was made up of Tony Hadley (vocals), Gary Kemp (guitar), his brother Martin Kemp (bass), Steve Norman (guitar), and John Keeble (drums). Both Kemp brothers appeared in the film The Krays in 1990. Martin Kemp later acted in the BBC soap opera East Enders as Steve Owen.In 1998 Hadley, Norman and Keeble sued Gary Kemp, the chief songwriter, for a greater share of the royalties, but lost the case.

  • Just about everyone from the tail end of our generation who are now pre-teen or teenagers need to be put in a room and be forced to listen to the greatest hits from the last five decades. I believe it might make more people wake up to the reality that most modern music sucks out loud.

  • ...que buen tema...

  • So wish I was a teenager in those days. Queen, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Spandau Ballet, Rod Stewart. Instead I've to live through Rihanna, Lady GaGa and what not. I wonder which they'll be playin in another 20 years time!

  • @Weirdo7310 shutup

  • This song and 'True' have a special place in my heart. It was late 1983 and I had just had emergency surgery a few days before, which saved my life. I was feeling lonely and depressed in my hospital bed. I turned my portable television set on and happened to watch the Don Herron Show (I'm Canadian). Spandau Ballet were his special guests who were there to perform/promote those two songs and new album. I could only think 'What an incredible voice!' It really lifted my spirits.

  • @FYROM100 Well more than likely they'll ask you who any of the listed (besides The Beatles) are. I just finished school and understand why he/she says what he/she says. Don't be in denial, of course there are youths like me who get orgasms for this kinda stuff. But most of today's youth don't know what music is. My friends accuse me of 'Living in the past' and being 'Only caring about 80s music' while most of them listen to emo rock, rap and other crap....

  • Yessssss!!!! Gold Always believe in …. Gold, Your indestructible, GOLD!!!

  • this song sucks

  • When I hear Spandau Ballet, I can feel those times run through me...making me smile. I'm grateful and proud to have been there!

  • @silverblade357 I think you're wrong. No one needs to be forced to listen to this, most people choose to. Walk in to an average high school in the UK and ask someone in their teens what they prefer...Justin Beiber or Spandau...Nikki Minaj or Tracy Chapman...JLS or The Beatles...i think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The idea that the 'young generation' only loves the 'modern music' that you're referring to is an idea created by the media and fueled by comments like that of your own...no offence
