Now, although the actual first tape on BBC2 had only featured in service for the first two months of its inception, nobody knows of its title so we know little or anything at all about it, so the second tape in sequence (which also happens to be the oldest surviving tape on the channel and also not to be confused with Mazurka in 1973 on BBC1) is the lovely La Gran Vie - Mazurka tape, which was in service between April 1964 and February 1965 when it was replaced by Canzonetta. Enjoy!!!!
and did you know test card music used to be played by a live orchestra?

The piece that starts around 5:42 is by Rimsky-Korsakov's - his "Snow Maiden" operatic suite (or "Snegurochka–Vesennyaya Skazka", in the original Russian). I wonder if it was recorded by one of the BBC's own orchestras? They have several!

Tracks 2 and 3 were repeated on BBC1's "Merry Chicken Yard" tape (1965 - 1968)
