That story about the surgery is incorrect - Lang died following a tonsillectomy. The story is that Crosby had encouraged Lang to have the surgery - even though it was elective - because his hoarse speaing voice didn't lend itself well to speaking parts in movies. Crosby figured that if the surgery helped, it would be good for his future career.

Bing and Eddie were perfect for one another and just as Billie and lester matched each other. Beautiful recording.

At a point in time, Bing's best friend, Eddie Lang. When Lang died in appendectory surgery, Bing grieved because he had pleaded with Eddie to have the surgery as the doctors insisted. As the story goes, later Bing refused to have surgery for some throat nodules. This was due to what happened to Lang. Experts say because Crosby skipped the surgery, his voice actually improved over the years.

Bing also sang this song in Please (1933), a short movie.
