Yes, the 'iconic' thing is obvious - my point (again) is that this song bore no relevance in theme or tone to a global sports showcase. I'm not bashing KD or Cohen - I like them both... but, 'most known, praised, and globally covered' is significant: that song has suffered from serious overexposure in the past several years.

And since it's beyond you: my location means I have some insight and connection with the event under discussion, esp. as I'll be paying for it still in 2030, unfortunately.

I'm also Canadian (though why nationality is relevant or makes an opinion more credible is beyond me) and I have to disagree. The Vancouver Olympics Committee were trying to show off the iconic hallmarks of Canada. As one of the most popular Canadian poets/artists, Cohen was an obvious choice, as was his most known, praised and globally covered song. This wasn't about sexualizing the show - there were MANY other options that are much worse, and really, the sex isn't THAT obvious in Hallelujah.
