Identity theft is a serious crime. It occurs when your personal information is stolen and used without your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes. Identity theft can cost you time and money. It can destroy your credit and
ruin your good name.
Deter identity thieves by safeguarding your information.
■ Shred financial documents and paperwork with personal information before you discard them.
■ Protect your Social Security number. Don't carry your Social Security card in your wallet or write your Social Security number on a check. Give it out only if absolutely necessary or ask to use another identifier.
■ Don't give out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or over the Internet unless you
know who you are dealing with.
■ Never click on links sent in unsolicited emails;
instead, type in a web address you know. Use firewalls,
anti-spyware, and anti-virus software to protect
your home computer; keep them up-to-date.
Visit OnGuardOnline.gov for more information.
■ Don't use an obvious password like your birth date,
your mother's maiden name, or the last four digits
of your Social Security number.
■ Keep your personal information in a secure place
at home, especially if you have roommates, employ outside help, or are having work done in your house.
Defend against ID theft as soon as you suspect it.
■ Place a "Fraud Alert" on your credit reports, and review the reports carefully. The alert tells creditors
to follow certain procedures before they open new accounts in your name or make changes to your existing accounts. The three nationwide consumer reporting companies have toll-free numbers for placing an initial 90-day fraud alert; a call to one company is sufficient:
Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

  • Think about it, you're advising people not to trust people they don't know with a large amount of money. If you have to even advise someone of that, they're a lost cause.

I'm guessing you got scammed by wiring money overseas and are warning others?

  • I didn't get scammed by wiring money overseas.. I'm warning others cause this is what i've been called to do.

  • All unsolicited spam E-mails, spim[unsolicited instant messages asking for ca$h] , Potential Lenders [requiring advance fees] Job offers[involving wire transfers/checks/paypal & shipping], Checks/money orders, Sob Stories[look out for people who use God's Name] from OVERSEAS & from the states are SCAMS!! If it seems too good to be true, it probably a scam. If it's unsolicited, it's a scam!!

  • ■ Shred financial documents and paperwork with personal information before you discard them.

  • Yeah, I can't sell shit on the internet w/out scammers tryin' to fuck over me! Heres some clues you might of missed that shows that its a scam. 1)Most are foreigners and they don't speak very good english. You will notice if you read the message carefully. 2) They also give a very polite greeting at the beginning of the letter. 3) Last, they like to use the phrases: "kindly" and "let me know".

  • He's our only hope!!!

  • if its sounds to good to be true it usually is

  • I got scammed by Nigerians...they try to get you to ship the item really fast as they give an excuse like " It's my husbands birthday in 3 days " or something like that.

Then the fake emails come telling you that you've been payed, but after you ship you haven't !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I think it's quite suspicious ( it's happening to me now.....) that a buyer who bidded on my item created that account the same day........BE CAREFUL ONLINE

  • Also, jusy because a check you deposit in your account clears, does not mean you are safe. At ANY time in the future when the bank discovers the check is fraudulent they can and will gett the money back from you - even a year later.

  • As a child, my father would tell me, "you never get somethin' for nothin'.

He was right, and his words have served me well.

  • i muted the audio i do not need to hear music for this
